How it all began
Two German friends, both scientists, are sitting at the beach of Golden Bay in Malta on vacation, eating, drinking and watching the sunset.“
„The sun has unlimited energy,“ says one, „but all attempts to make it useable for humans are either too expensive or too complicated or both.“
„Yes,“ replies the other, looking out at the sea, „especially the storage of the energy is the problem, yet the solution lies right before our eyes, the sea!“
At that moment, UGE was born!

All about UGE

UGE – The Whole Story
Bernhard Puttke, a graduate physicist, violinist, and inventor, and Dr. Thomas Noll, a PhD chemist and inventor, had, at an age when others enjoy their retirement, a brilliant idea:
How can the power of the sun and the storage capacity of the ocean be harnessed for the benefit of humanity?
Physical and chemical processes such as OTEC, Rankine Cycle, and Fischer-Tropf process were quickly discussed, known for decades, partly standard, partly not economically viable.
Weeks, months, and years passed after the first brilliant idea until the two had figured out the key, to write an economically and technically feasible process into a patent, which formed the basis for all further steps.
One thing was clear: The project was too large to be built, developed, and made usable for humanity by just two people of retirement age.
A succession plan was needed, a younger team had to be brought on board, trained, and the entire UGE company had to be solidly financed.
Consequently, an existing, dormant Maltese corporation was taken over, patents were contributed, and a public offering was planned and set in motion.
At the same time, locations for the first production facility were identified.
Due to technological reasons, only locations in the sea with large temperature differences between surface temperature and deep-sea temperature were considered.
This requirement is met by all marine areas between the northern and southern tropics.

UGE produces clean energy.
The energy produced is a result of the Rankine Cycle, a well-known physical process, invented in the late 19th century and still valid.
This thermodynamic cycle is here empowered by geothermal sources, the difference between the temperatures on the surface of the sea and in the deep sea.
No drilling, no fuel combustion, no nuclear fusion and no waste.
The solar energy is used indirectly through the heating up the surface temperature by the sun, day by day.
A few standard components with no impact on the environment are needed – everything totally green.
This will start an unlimited performance, because the sun is shining day by day – therefore unlimited.

UGE produces water. How does that work? Has UGE tapped a mineral spring? No.
Has UGE drilled wells and tapped groundwater? No.
Has UGE built a seawater desalination plant? No. But we are approaching it.
UGE extracts water from the sea, innovatively and without causing damage. No salt is removed, no contaminated filters need to be cleaned and disposed of in the sea.
And since water production is linked to the daily energy from the sun and temperature differences in the sea, UGE stands for Unlimited Green Energy, because solar energy is unlimited, the sea is so vast that it can rightly be called unlimited, and the use of this energy and its storage capacity is also unlimited.
UGE – is electricity

The first output of the Rankine Cycle is energy in form of electricity.
Because of the unlimited process, there is unlimited electricity produced.
The quantity, the current and the current strength and the current intensity of the produced electricity are dependent of the scale of the production plant.
We recommend a 20 MW production plant, but every scale lower or higher is possible as well.

UGE – is green ammonia

Green ammonia is produced by combining hydrogen and nitrogen.
The chemical process is well-known as Haber-Bosch process, invented at the beginning of the 20th century, one of the most important chemical processes ever developed.
The formula is:
N2+3H2⇌2NH3
Nitrogen is a part of the air, about 78% of the air is nitrogen.
An air separation unit removes oxygen and other gases, leaving nearly pure nitrogen.
If the hydrogen is produced by renewable-powered electrolysis, as it is in our UGE production plant, the resulting product is called green ammonia.
Green ammonia is used for fertilizers, refrigeration systems and potential carbon-free fuel applications.


UGE – is green oxygen

The oxygen is produced by the electrolysis, a standard physical process.
Electrolysis uses electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. The formula of the overall reaction is:

Because the produced electricity is a green, renewable process and the water is produced in a green manner as well, the output of oxygen is green.
For every 1 kg of green hydrogen produced, about 8 kg of green oxygen is generated.
Green oxygen may be used for wastewater treatment, green steel production, glass and cement manufacturing and in the chemical industry for various applications, including production of greensynthetic fuels and refining operations.
Other applications are in medical usage in hospitals and simplyfing carbon capture.
UGE – is green hydrogen

The hydrogen is produced by the electrolysis, a standard physical process.
Electrolysis uses electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen.
The formula of the overall reaction is:

Because the produced electricity is a green, renewable process and the water is produced in a green manner as well, the output of hydrogen is green.
Green hydrogen is important for the production of green ammonia, green methanol and e-fuels, green steel production, for energy storage, fuel-cell vehicles, industrial heat and power generation.


UGE – is data centre

With its green electricity production, the UGE production plants can provide electricity for data centre, that are build-in into the UGE platform.
Data centres need a lot of cheap electricity and they need cooling, that can be done by integrating the data centre into the Rankine cycle running with CO2 .
In addition, by integrating the data centre into the underwater area of the UGE production plant, the data centres are protected against attacks with weapons, especially electro-pulse weapons.
UGE – is patented technology

One of the first questions, interested people were asking is:
Why has this brilliant technology not been invented earlier or why has such a production not started earlier?
The Rankine cycle, the electrolysis process, the Haber-Bosch process, all the OTEC attempts that didn’t lead to success, why has UGE succeeded?
The answer is very simple:
The inventors Dr. Thomas Noll and Bernhard Puttke have found the reason why all other attempts failed and times have changed, politically and environmentally.
Green products are now in the focus!
And both inventors have described their innovations in two patents, in addition to their know-how, secured in a safe of the company UGE.
Meanwhile there is a production plant on land, built by the second-largest container shipping company of the world, Moller-Maersk, world-known BASF and Mitsui, producing green methanol for the vessels of Moller-Maersk.
The difference to UGE:
The production is on land, you must buy a real estate, and it is supplied by green electricity produced by wind power plants. This makes the produced green methanol much more expensive regarding the acquisition price as well as the running expenses.
UGE has no real estate costs, the running costs are less expensive, and the producing plants are on see, where the consumers and dealers can easily – without political obstacles (Street of Hormuz!) – load their desired product.


UGE is a corporation, planning a listing on the stock exchange

UGE is a Maltese P.L.C. , a public limited company. At the moment, all shares of the company are held privately.
Because of the age of 70 years plus of the inventors and major shareholders, UGE needs a successor or successors who can lead the company in the next decades.
Therefore, the shareholders are planning a listing on the Maltese Stock Exchange with a, automatic second listing on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. These listings shall draw attention to the inspiring new technology of UGE with the possible and desired result of finding younger, experienced entrepreneurs, leading UGE as their own company to an enormous success in the future.
The actual shareholders are prepared to sell their shares for a reasonable downpayment and bonuses paid out of future earnings.
